Saba Douglas-Hamilton
Conservationist & Anthropologist
Saba is currently working on her first book, an insight into her African childhood.
As presenter of the BBC’s hugely successful series Big Cat Diary and Wild, Saba is a well-known face of natural history programmes. Her unusual background, combined with her knowledge and natural on-screen presence, have made Saba one of the most popular documentary talents.
An ardent conservationist and trustee of her father’s charity Save The Elephants, their work together was filmed by the BBC for the 2009, three-part documentary series The Secret Life of Elephants.
Born and brought up in Kenya by her zoologist father and author mother (Among the Elephants and The Elephant Family Book), Saba’s rich experience of African wildlife and people, combined with a first class degree in Social Anthropology, ensures the expertise behind her compelling TV work. For the Wild series Saba has presented Escape the Elephant, Running with Reindeer, The Miracle Lioness, Search for Tigers and Search for Polar Bears. Her series Unknown Africa featured Angola, the Comoros Islands and the Central African Republic. Saba co-presents the BBC's popular Big Cat Diary and has produced and presented her own films for Animal Planet’s Mutual of Omaha series, winning multiple awards for Heart of a Lioness and Saba and the Rhino‘s Secret. She has also reported for the BBC’s Holiday programme from exotic locations such as Brunei, Ethiopia, Papua New Guinea and Antarctica.
Tirelessly committed to the conservation of Africa’s wildlife and its indigenous peoples, Saba’s passion makes her an animated and engaging public speaker. She is a popular speaker at the Royal Geographical Society.
