Tristram Stuart

Author, Historian & Environmentalist

Tristram is the author of The Bloodless Revolution (2006), ‘a genuinely revelatory contribution to the history of human ideas’ (Daily Telegraph), and Waste: Uncovering the Global Food Scandal (2009), a book revealing the extent of food waste in Western countries and winner of the IACP Cookbook Awards Literary Food Writing Prize. In 2009 Tristram organised "Feeding the 5000" in London's Trafalgar Square in which 5,000 people were served free hot curry, bicycle-churned smoothies, and three tonnes of fresh groceries, using only ingredients that otherwise would have been wasted.

Combining historical research and investigation into modern food production, Tristram has made numerous television appearances; highlights include BBC’s Great British Waste Menu and Politics Show as well as Channel 4’s The F-Word. He is a regular contributor to radio and has provided the ‘Highlight of the Day’ feature on BBC Radio 4’s The Today Programme and contributed to shows such as You & Yours and Open Country.

Tristram advises government, businesses and NGOs in several countries to implement the reduction of food waste and in 2011 he was awarded the international environmental award, The Sophie Prize.
