Christopher Lloyd

Author, Speaker, Historian, Science Writer & Educationalist

Christopher Lloyd is a Cambridge historian, award-winning Sunday Times journalist and author of a series of highly acclaimed books that combine science and history into an interconnected, holistic view of the past.

His book What on Earth Happened? (2008) takes readers on a journey all the way from the beginning of the universe to the present day in a single volume. While his sequel, What on Earth Evolved?(2009), profiles the history of life on Earth through 100 of the most successful species ever to have lived (including humans). The What on Earth? Wallbook (2010, already in 5 languages) and the What on Earth? Wallbook of Natural History (published in collaboration with the Natural History Museum, October 2011) are intricately designed timelines, each with more than 1,000 pictures and captions, which tell the story of big history for readers of all ages.

Christopher divides his time between writing books, journalism and lecturing in schools, museums, and at literary festivals. He specializes in telling big stories on a giant canvass and making connections between disparate subjects and disciplines. Christopher was recently featured on Dutch broadcaster VPROs series On the Future of Species and has appeared on BBC Breakfast TV and The Today Programme with John Humphrey’s on Radio 4.
