Zoologist and Presenter
Zoologist Mark Carwardine is an experienced radio and television presenter, award-winning writer, best-selling author, magazine columnist, widely published photographer, international conservation consultant and lecturer.
Mark presented the weekly half-hour programme Nature on BBC Radio 4 for many years, as well as many other programmes and mini-series for BBC Radio 4. He has appeared on hundreds of radio and TV programmes talking about wildlife, conservation and travel. Currently co-presenting a major six-part BBC2 series with Stephen Fry – travelling the world in search of endangered wildlife (due for broadcast in autumn 2009), Last Chance to See.
Mark has written more than 40 books – including the best-selling Last Chance to See with Douglas Adams (author of The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) and the most popular field guide to whales, dolphins and porpoises ever published – and writes monthly columns in BBC Wildlife and Wanderlust magazines.
As an active conservationist, he was recently voted one of the world’s most influential conservationists by an international panel of experts. He is also a well-established photographer and in 2008 will yet again be Chairman of the judging panel of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition – the biggest and most prestigious competition of its kind in the world.
