Alastair Sawday
Environmentalist & Presenter

Alastair is one of Britain’s foremost green travel experts and an award winning environmentally friendly businessmen. He has appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Open Country and Today programmes, Channel 4’s No Going Back and Hotel Inspector for Five.

Alastair is most famous for his best-selling travel books Alastair Sawday’s Special Places to Stay (now 20 in the series) and for his Fragile Earth collection of hard hitting environmental titles such as The Big Earth Book.  He contributes regularly to The Guardian and has written for the The Telegraph, The Observer, The Times, Daily Mail and Observer Food Monthly, amongst other magazines.

Alastair’s passion for green ethics has taken his career in many different directions; he ran as parliamentary candidate for the Green Party, was Vice-Chair of the Soil Association and was founder, Chairman and Director of Avon Friends of the Earth.

After a wide and global background in which he headed a VSO programme in Papua New Guinea, ran a disaster relief team for Oxfam in Turkey, taught French and conducted tours through Europe, the newly coined ‘Eco Hero’ has now settled down to publishing, broadcasting and public speaking; Alastair is a successful motivational presenter for corporate and educational events and is keen to inspire people, especially business people, to change their perspective on their lives.
